A long and beautiful history born in France in 1957
Cobaty was born out of the need to rebuild the country.
The history of Cobaty merges closely with that of the building since the reconstruction of the 1950s until today. More than 60 years of alternating periods of growth or crisis that will radically transform our environment. With a development always mastered, Cobaty knew to cross all these periods without losing anything of the initial spirit of its founders. On December 14, 1957, eleven professionals created «Cobaty Club» (or International Club of Construction and Urbanism), association law of 1901. Then, over the years, Cobaty grew. It is now an International Federation comprising 4,600 Cobatystes, members of 134 Associations created in France and other countries. A remarkable climb. Always with the values of friendship and exchange at heart.

Meaning of the term Cobaty and logotype
What does the term Cobaty mean? The prefix «co» corresponds to the Latin preposition accompanying cum (with). The «y» ending imitates an Anglo-Saxon type of disincentive in line with post-war American philosophy. The term Cobaty therefore refers to the action of building with each other, in common, together. That is the foundation of the association.
In 1975, Cobaty acquired a logo. The symbolism of the chosen logo speaks to the people of the building because there are the tools of the Companions of the Tour de France (plumb line, compass, square and ruler) and the blue color that recalls the line of level drawn with blue chalk to serve as a reference for the bodies of state. The appearance of the logo naturally paves the way for the creation of pennants and badges.

In 1975, Jean Siaut proposed to the National Bureau the striking of a Cobaty medal to Honor and strengthen the sense of belonging.

A very nice trajectory
Since 1957, Cobaty has continued to grow. Starting from a single Association, Cobaty has gradually grown, the principle being that an existing Association can sponsor the creation of another (provided that it has at least ten founding members). Each Association is named after the city or territory where it is located.
This development of the number of Associations - 60 in 1989, 135 in 2021 - allows a very tight network of territories. In addition, Cobaty is present outside France with associations in Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Côte d'Ivoire, Lebanon and Madagascar. Proof that the Cobaty «model» and its values are easily «exportable». A living, unique structure, the Association allows people to be together because, quite simply, they want to be together.

Professional quality being the meeting of competence and loyalty, Cobaty integrates those who practice their profession with passion with regard to these criteria, always in perspective with the general interest. Thus, Cobaty has the ambition to bring together those who integrate this ethics in their activities. The confrontation of experiences, attitudes and professional practices has as a corollary the production of proposals, opinions, reflections, always issued with the aim of objectivity and altruism with in perspective only the satisfaction of the public interest. We can’t build anything alone. Also, by building together, by sharing experiences and assets but also doubts and uncertainties, Cobatystes are stronger and more effective. The satisfaction of those who trust us is our best reward.
